Red

Red is one of, if not the, strongest of colors in the rainbow. A symbol of power, passion, blood, and love, red is a bold and striking color for your engagement session. Since red is truly a brilliant, attention-grabbing color, I recommend peppering your outfit with red accents instead of making red the main color for all garments. Pairing red with denim or darker neutral tones makes for striking engagement images that create lasting impressions on your wall.

Orange

Orange is a tangy, optimistic color that demands attention! Strong, joyful, and happy, adding orange to your engagement session is always a hit on camera. Couples with a more extroverted nature might enjoy orange-themed outfits. Orange also looks wonderful in urban settings, such as against concrete, brick, and stone.

Yellow

Ah, yellow! The color of happiness, of light and sunshine. Yellow is a wonderful color to wear in outdoor, buttery natural-light shoots, and looks amazing on camera! Although yellow can be difficult for some to wear because of its tendency to wash out skin tones, patterns with yellow or a single yellow garment in an otherwise neutral palette adds wonders to your images. Adding yellow florals, jewelry, or accents also helps to make your photos go “POP!”. I love yellow!

Green

Nothing says fresh and new quite like the color green! Green comes in a wide array of shades, ranging from a yellowish, pea-like hue all the way to turquoise! Green looks beautiful combined with earth tones, and therefore makes a wonderful choice for outdoor shoots and backdrops of wood and stone. Even small accents of green, such as jewelry, scarves, or shoes, look wonderful with whites and tans.

Blue and Indigo

Indigo – or deep blue – is a rich, exceedingly popular color which looks beautiful in almost any setting. Outfits with blue elements create a sense of calm and quiet - perfect for a more introverted couple or natural backdrops. Blue can be dressed up or down to fit your tastes, and can be used either as a main color or accenting in your outfits.

Violet

In ancient times, the creation of purple dye was an incredibly lengthy, expensive process. Purple garments became a symbol of wealth and nobility, even royalty; and were sought after world-round. Although violet is now far easier to come by, the color is still associated with its royal roots. A violet-themed engagement outfit exudes playful sophistication and looks great on camera! Small accents of purple, such as scarves and accessories, can also liven up an otherwise muted palette!

I love it when my clients request sessions at the University of Oregon. It’s such a lovely campus, and as a former U of O student myself, I have many fond memories there! This particular shoot was already special since I had known Brooke and Hannah since they were preschoolers. We had become close friends over the years but had fallen out of touch. I was delighted when their mom, Jolan, asked for a session! These girls just radiate love and joy. They are beautiful from the inside out, and it was such an honor to be able to spend time with them!

Here are the rest of my favorite shots from Rebecca & Stuart’s wedding. As I said before, the hardest part of the whole day for me (sister of the groom) was to not cry during the ceremony. I managed to hold off until everyone was down the aisle and in the receiving line before shedding a tear or two! I was just so happy that my “baby” brother had found the love of his life and was starting his journey with the very sweet and lovely Becca. Thank you so much for letting me document your special day!

PS: I forgot to mention something special about Becca’s wedding dress. It was passed down from her grandmother and mother, who both wore it on their wedding days!

To say it was an honor to help document the biggest day in my brother’s life (so far), was an understatement to say the least. The hardest part, of course, was keeping my emotions in check so I could do the best possible job. As you can see, it was a joyous day from the very start!

This might possibly be my favorite engagement session ever! That’s because this is a special couple: my brother and his (at that time) soon-to-be beautiful bride!

Stuart and I (and Becca, of course) met out at our parents’ farm on a gorgeous January day. We had fun just goofing around (and, if you know us, that’s nothing unusual!) and were able to catch some sweet moments that I hope they will cherish for a long time.

I first met Chloe when she was a volunteer out at Wild Ones Youth Ranch (an awesome non-profit program for kids and horses… check them out!). Soon after, she asked me to take her senior pictures, and then she became a senior model for Sugar Beets. Even after she graduated, she didn’t quit!

Chloe has been a wonderful and loyal friend and has sent some fabulous families and seniors my way. Now she is my honorary spokesperson.

Since she is also interested in photography,we’ve started planning styled shoots and other projects. This is our first try, and I think it turned out great! Look for more sessions starring Chloe and friends in the near future.

Sessions for a Cause 2013: Hosea Youth Services

This year I am excited about supporting several local organizations that really make a difference in our community. Starting today I will be hosting a fundraiser for Hosea Youth Services, a non-profit group that provides services for homeless teens. Read all about HYS here or on their Facebook page. From now until March 1, I will donate $25 of every session fee to HYS. Also, to help them stock up on some much needed supplies, if you donate certain items (ask me for the list), I will give you a free photo package with your session! Conatact me for details. My first session of the year was with the incredible Saylor family. It had been quite a while since everyone had been all together in the same place, so it was the perfect time for some group shots.

We met at the Owen Memorial Rose Garden in Eugene, which was still gorgeous even on a frigid winter day. With two parents, six siblings, and two grandchildren, there was a whole lot of merriment going on!

Teen Session: Sweet 16

I’ve been blessed with getting to work with a lot of amazing young people when I was a preschool, Spanish and library teacher and it has been fun getting to take photos of some of them this past year!

I met Emily when she was in the elementary after school program I worked in. So when she asked me to take her Sweet 16 photos I was very honored and excited!

Emily, her mom, and her friend Brooke and I met up at the lovely Dorris Ranch in Springfield on another glorious, autumn day! The light was just amazing and it seemed incredibly easy to get bunches of gorgeous pictures. Here are just a few of the lovely, spunky, vibrant Miss Emily!
